About us

What would you like to know more about?

More about Cub Scouts

Cub Scouts are boys and girls aged between 8 and 10½ years of age. Cubs is the second section of the Scouting movement after Beaver Scouts and before Scouts. It was originally started in 1916 for younger brothers of Scouts (which had started in 1907). In the last century the section has constantly evolved and adapted its programme and methods to meet the changing needs of each generation of young people. When you are a Cub you can work for lots of badges and awards. Our highest award is the Chief Scout’s Silver Award. We do not have the requirements on our site but click on the “badges & awards” link to take you to up to date information on the Scout Association website.

More about Parbrook Cubs

There are two Cub packs in Billingshurst. We meet on a Tuesday night from 6.30pm to 8pm at the Billingshurst Scout and Guide HQ in Lower Station Road.
You can see the sort of things that we get up to by clicking on the “Reports” link at the top of any of our pages. You can also see what is coming up by looking at our calendar on the right of our pages.

More about the leaders

All our leaders are volunteers and have been CRB checked. You can find out more about leaders in general on the Scout Association website. Our Cub leaders all have jungle book names.

Our pack is led by Akela (Nick Wainewright) with help from assistant leaders Jacala (Nick Layt), Keego (Gemma Olliver) and Bagheera (Jane Wainewright). We are assisted by our young leader, Tabaqui (Matt Wilson). You can e-mail us by using our pack names (e.g. Akela) “at” parbrook.org.uk or get us all in one go by sending an e-mail to “leaders” at parbrook.org.uk.

We are always looking for new leaders and helpers. Not all leaders wear uniform, you don’t have to help every week and you don’t have to be a Cub parent. If you think you would like to get more involved please see our “Join us” page.

More about our group – 1st Billingshurst

At 1st Billingshurst we have Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. We have two cub packs – ours is called Parbrook and meets on a Tuesday night. The other pack is called Dauxwood and meets on Wednesdays. The two packs are completely separate and run quite differently. This website is for Parbrook cub pack.

More about our District – Petworth & Pulborough

Scout Groups like 1st Billingshurst don’t operate in isolation. We are part of Petworth & Pulborough District which includes groups from Ifold, Storrington and Wisborough Green. We’ve put more information and links on our District page.

The District in turn is one of 12 that make up West Sussex Scout County.
