Pack meeting – 14 June – rafting

In our planning session last term the Cubs asked for more water activities. On Wednesday 14 June we will be holding our pack meeting in Ashington so that we can do rafting. There will be no Cubs on Tuesday 13 June.

When: 14 June, 6.30pm to 8pm

Where:  Church farm, Ashington – the entrance to which is situated next to the church and directly opposite the scout hut. Address is Church Lane, Ashington, Pulborough RH20 3JX.
Cars can be parked inside the entrance to the farm on hard standing, it is then a 5 minute walk up to the lake. We will meet at the entrance and then all go to the lake together so please do not drive up to the lake.
Dauxwood Cubs visited last week and have sent us the following additional directions –
go to the end of Church Lane, take the private road alongside the left of the church, then park just inside the double gates on the left and then walk up between the barns along the track for about 5 minutes until you reach the larger pond by the tree line.”

Wear: clothes & footwear you are happy to get wet/muddy. Ideally shorts and t-shirts or wet suits with old trainers/beach shoes if you have them. Warm, dry clothes and shoes for afterwards – tracksuit bottoms and a fleece usually work well. Bring a towel and a bag for wet clothes. Note that uniform is not required.

Bring:  In addition to a change of clothes and a towel you should bring a water bottle.

Cost: There is no additional charge for this event – we are meeting the cost from our funds.

Safety: The activity will take place in a lake which has mud, ducks, weed etc. All participants will be required to wear a buoyancy aid when on or in the water.

Paperwork: Please let us know if you are able to attend by registering for the evening on My Scout.
Everybody can take part, even if you are a non-swimmer. However, the team providing the event need to know and as usual we need your permission and a contact number for the evening. Scout activity rules for water activities have a swimming standard which is that you can swim 50m and float for 5 minutes when wearing the clothes you would use for the activity – including buoyancy aids. We have included a box for you to make that declaration. Please complete our online form before the event.
