Report: Sailing taster

West Sussex Scouts runs sailing taster mornings each year but they get booked up very quickly. Back in April we saw them advertised and managed to book 14 places.

On Saturday 16 July 2016 we went to Weir Wood sailing club. Once changed we went off to find the boats which were hiding in the long grass under the trees. After a bit of coaching on land the boats took to the water with 2 cubs in each (most of the time).

We don’t get the chance to do water activities very often and each of the Cubs gained a time on the water badge and those who didn’t have it already also gained a nautical skills stage 1 badge. We were pleased to see everybody having a go and working together to sail their boats.

Guest list, 14 Cubs: Abi, Aiden, Ellie, Emily, Finley W, Isabella, Joshua, Kinley, Max, Poppy, Robin, Thomas and William.

As usual we were able to keep people at home updated with pictures on our Instagram feed.

Want more sailing?
The session was intended to be a taster. If after the session the Cub Scouts wish to continue sailing, Weir Wood Sailing Club is open to new members and offers a range of training and sailing opportunities for all ages. More details can be found at http://www.wwsc.org.uk
