We’re excited to be offered places on a County organised sailing taster day at Weir Wood Reservoir near East Grinstead. We don’t get a lot of opportunity to try out water activities and some of these taster sessions are already sold out. We’ve now filled all available places on this event.
What: West Sussex Scouts in partnership with Weir Wood Sailing club are offering morning taster sessions for Cub Scouts at Weir wood Reservoir. The sessions will be run by an authorised Scout Instructor and assisted by RYA Dinghy instructors based at the club. After a bit of theory on dry land you’ll pair up in Optimist dingys and sail on the reservoir for the rest of the session.
Where: Weir Wood Sailing Club, Forest Row, East Sussex, RH18 5HT. You will need to arrange your own transport.
When: You will need to be there to start at 09:30. The session is due to end at 12:30
Wear: You should wear appropriate clothes for the event and you may get wet so include a towel and a change of clothes for the journey home. Note that uniform is not required but that you will have a buoyancy aid and safety helmet when in the boat.
Cost: The cost is £15 per person but we’ve used our Parbrook Cashback to reduce this to £13. We’re sorry but we must have full payment at the time of booking to guarantee your place.
Badge: You will gain a time on the water credit towards that staged badge and also stage 1 of the nautical skills staged badge. It will also be a new sport for your Skills challenge.
Who: This event was open to all of our Cubs. Scouting water activity rules require us to ask that you can swim 50m and you will have to make that declaration when you book. However, all Cubs will have buoyancy aids and the instructors will be close by so really you need to be sure that you will be confident in the water, in the unlikely event that you do fall in. We have now filled all the available places.
Guest list at 18 April. All 14 places have been filled and all fees paid
