This year our Summer Camp will be rather different as we will be joining Cubs from across East and West Sussex to celebrate the centenary of Cub Scouting. These County camps only happen occasionally and are quite different to our normal camps.
It will be a level 3 camp as we will be sleeping in tents.
Update 26 July: We’ve now published the joining instructions on a new page
Where: We will be camping on the South of England Agricultural Society’s Showground at Ardingly.
When: We start in the afternoon on Friday 29 July and run through to Monday 1 August when camp ends about 4pm. We have not yet received specific timings from the organisers.
Theme: The organisers have chosen a Jungle Book theme and each of the 18 Scouting Districts attending will be allocated a Jungle Book name. Our District, Petworth & Pulborough, will be camping with Cubs from Seahaven District (Newhaven & Seaford area in East Sussex) in the Rikki-tikki-tavi sub camp. Everybody that attends will get a Sussex100 t-shirt and badge but we will have to make a mongoose costume.
What: We expect that activities will include:
- Carrot’s Roadshow
- Arts & Crafts
- Centenary Birthday Party with goodie bag (on Monday)
- “Cubs got talent”
- Zip Wire
- Rope making
Transport: The county is arranging coaches for all campers and their personal gear. We’re grateful to the group for paying the cost of the coaches (£13 per person) so that this does not have to be added to the camp fees. Coaches will leave Billingshurst from outside the Weald School 6th form block.
We are likely to need a van to transport the tents and equipment as that will need to be at site before campers arrive. It is possible that camp will be constructed on the Thursday.
Who: Camp is open to all our invested members. We initially started with 10 Cub places and filled them so have managed to secure some more. We will be camping with Cubs from 1st Billingshurst’s Dauxwood pack
Guest list at 14 June, 16 Cubs:
Cost: Camp fees are divided into two parts. We have to pay £55 per Cub to the organisers and in addition there is a local charge of £25 to pay for food and transportation costs. That makes a total cost for camp of £80. As usual we’ll use our Parbrook Cashback to subsidise the event, reducing the cost to £65.
Remember that we can only offer Parbrook Cashback discounts if you help us by raising money when you shop online. Use the app or donation reminder toolbar to make sure that you don’t miss out on any donations. For more information and to sign up please visit our Easyfundraising page.
Paperwork: Health forms (HF) have now been issued. You need to provide the original and two copies of the health form. Each must include a recent photo of the Cub. You must also complete an activities consent form which includes a separate consent for rifle shooting. You need to provide the original and one copy of this form. We’re pleased to say that all the forms have been received and forwarded to the camp organisers.
Bring: We have revised the kit list. Please see the joining instructions for the extra items that you should bring
