What: London Irish will be holding their third annual Scout day on Sunday 22 February. We will be joining Scouts from across the area to see London Irish play Leicester Tigers in the Aviva Premiership. The Scout groups have reserved seats so that we will all be sitting together.
Where: The match will be played at the Madejski Stadium in Reading. It is located close to junction 11 of the M4. We intend to travel by coach to avoid the car parking problems around the ground. This adds £12 per person to the cost but our “Parbrook Cashback” will subsidise that so that you pay just £5 per seat.
When: The match starts at 2pm but we’ll need to leave Billingshurst at 11am to get through the Guildford shoppers and get to the ground in plenty of time. We should leave Reading at about 4pm and therefore be back in Billingshurst by around 6.30pm. The coach will pick up from and return to the layby outside the Primary School meaning those who need to park can leave their cars in Carpenters. Please make sure that you are at our coach stop by 10.45am
Badges: If you are a rugby fan then this may help you get the Cub or Scout Sports Enthusiast badge.
Cost: The guest list is now closed but there were discounted tickets for everybody although you will also need to pay the £5 coach fare for each seat. The ticket prices are as follows:
- Scout members in uniform: £5 (normally £12 and was £7 last year)
- Scout/Guide leaders/adults in uniform: £15 (normally £34)
- Additional adults not in uniform: £20 (normally £34)
- Concessions (16-18, 60+, students, emergency services & armed forces with ID): £15 (normally £29 )
- Other under 16s not in uniform: £5 (normally £12). Note that you must be under the care of an adult who is on the trip
Paperwork: All Cubs on our Guest list need to complete our usual online consent form. We still have a few people who have money outstanding so we would like to resolve that before the trip as we have now paid for the tickets and the coach.
Wear: As this is a Scout event you will need to wear your uniform top and scarf. However, sitting in the stands can be chilly so make sure you have appropriate warm clothing including a woolly hat, scarf and gloves. As usual the weather looks stormy and we cannot guarantee that the rain won’t blow into the stand so make sure you have a waterproof layer that you can put on should you need it.
Food: You can’t eat on the coach so please have a snack before departure to keep you going. Bring a picnic lunch (ideally in containers that can be thrown away) as we intend to eat when we arrive. You may want to bring a drink and/or snack to have at half time. There are food and drink outlets at the ground but they tend to be expensive and in any case get very busy at half time (which only lasts 15 minutes) so it is easier to bring your own.
Bring: You may like to bring a small amount of pocket money, limit for Cubs is £5, to spend on London Irish souvenirs. We hope to visit their shop before the game but again this may be very busy. A matchday programme is available at the ground and costs £3. If you plan to buy a programme you can still bring an extra £5 to spend in addition to the £3 for the programme. Please also bring a pencil or pen as we have some activity sheets for during the match. Adults may like to bring binoculars as some of the action may be at the opposite corner of the pitch.
Who: Although this trip is being managed by Parbrook Cubs, we opened it to all Billingshurst Scouts and friends of the group including the Scout Active Support unit. There are 35 seats on the coach. Thank you for booking 34 of them.
Final guest list (22 Feb)
Seats: Our seats at the Madejski Stadium are now confirmed. This year we will be sitting upstairs in the South West corner of the stand (block GU1). This is more or less opposite our seats that we had last year

- Live music in the North stand Craic bar
- Face painting, balloon modelling, connect 4 and giant inflatables in Digger’s Pound in the North stand
- Rodeo rugby ball and bungee run in the South stand concourse (probably not for Cub age but the Dads might like a go)
